cell cycle is the series of events that a cell goes through as it grows and divides
interphase is the stage of the cell cycle during which the cell grows and prepares for cell division
G1 the cell grows larger, copies its organelles, and carries out normal cellular functions. It also produces molecular building blocks, such as amino acids and sugars, and prepares for DNA replication
G2 the cell continues to grow in size and prepares for mitosis, It synthesizes proteins needed to form microtubules The cell also checks that it is ready for mitosis by confirming it has reached an adequate size and that its DNA is undamaged
S - phase the cell replicates its DNA
