What were the two important results that the enclosure movement began? 1. Landowners tried new agricultural method. 2. Large landowners forced small farmers to become tenant farmers or to give up farming and move to the cities.
How did population growth spur the Industrial Revolution? More clothes were needed for the boost in population and farmers who were displaced by the enclosure movement went to cities to work in factories.
What was Industrial Revolution? Refer to the greatly increased output of machine-made goods that began in England in the middle 1700s.
What is entrepreneur? A person who organizes, manages, nd takes on the risksof a business.
What were four factors that contributed to industrialization in Britain? Agricultural revolution,inventions, improvements in transportation, and England had all three factors of production. They included land, labor, and capital.
Who was Thomas Edison and what did he invent? He was an inventor who invented the photograph.
How did inventions lead to industrializaton? Jobs are done at home were now being professionally done in businesses.industrialization lead to improvements in standard living.
Who were the members of the middle class? Skilled workers, professionals, business people, and wealthy farmers.
What changes occurred in manchester? From this filthy sewer pure gold flows, industrial giant unhealthy place to live for poor people, wealth flowed from its factories, standard of living slowly rose.
Why is manchester a good example of how industrialization changed cities? because it shows both the good and bad sides of industrialization that all newly industrializing places.
What are stocks? Certain rights of ownership of a corporation.
What early industries mechanized in the United States? Industrialization in the United States began in the textile industry.
What inventions contributed to industrialization boom in the United States in the late 1800's? The electric light bulb and the telephone.
Why did Belgium lead Europe in adopting industrialization? Belgium led Europe in adopting Britain's new technology. It had rich deposits of iron ore and coal as well as fine waterways for transportation. As in the United States British skilled workers played a key role in industrializing Belgium.
What factors slowed industrialization in Germany? Germany was politically divided in the early 1800s. Economic isolation and scattered resources hampered countrywide industrialization.
How does capitalism work? In a capitalist economy, people invest their money in businesses to make a profits.
How are the ideas of capitalism and socialism different? They are different in how they view who runs the economy.
Who is Adam Smith? Philosopher who defended laissez-faire economics.
What is union? Organized groups of workers that bargain with business owner to get better pay and working conditions.
What happened in around 1800-1900? Slavery and women's equality reform movements. Reformers pushed to improve education and the conditions i prisons.
