Math 8 Percents

Percents & Proportions

Percent A ratio whose second term is 100. Means parts per 100.
Proportion States that two ratios (or fractions) are equal.
Scale Factor A number which scales, or multiplies, some quantity.
Equivalent When expressions have the same value, even though they may look different.
Numerator The top number in a fraction. Shows how many parts we have.
Denominator The bottom number in a fraction. Shows how many equal parts the item is divided into.
Ratio Shows the relative sizes of two or more values.
Rate A ratio that compares two quantities of different units.
Unit rate A rate where the second quantity is 1. In fraction form, the denominator has a value of 1.
Decimal A number that uses a point followed by digits that show a value smaller than one.
