characterization the techniques a writer uses to create and develop a character
hyperbole an extreme exaggeration
metaphor comparing two unlike things with a similar quality w/out like or as
onomatopoeia words that echo their meaning- hiss, buzz
personification giving an inanimate object/ animal human characteristics
short story a story that can be read in one sitting
simile comparing two things w/ like or
exposition happens at the beginning of a story where the author establishes the setting, background and protagonist
Alliteration the repetition of constant beginning sounds
