Chapter 5 vocabulary

What is electomagnetic radiation? a form of energy that exhibits wavelinke behavior as it travels through space.
What is wavelength? is the shortest distance between equivalent points on a continuous wave.
what is frenquency? is the number of waves that pass a given point per second.
what is amplitude? a wave is the wave's height from the orgin to a crest, or from the orgin to a trough.
what is electromagnetic spectrum? types of radiation being their frequencies and wavelenghts.
what is quantum? the mininmum amount of energy that can be gained or lost by an atom.
what is planck's constant? has a value of 6.626*10^-34 J is the symbol for the joule, the SI unit of energy.
what is photoelectric effect? emmitted from a metal's surface when light of a certain frenquency shines on the surface.
what is photon? with no mass that carries a quantum of energy
what is atomic emmission specturum? electromagnetic waves emitted by atoms of the element.
