protagonist the main character of the story
antagonist the character that creates conflict for the protagonist
foreshadowing the clue the auther gives the reader about what will happen in the story
conflict anything that causes problems within the story
external conflict a conflict from the outside
internal conflict a conflict within the character
setting the place and time where the story is held
character a person or a animal that takes part in the action of a literary work
dynamic character the character that changes throughout the story
static character the character that remains the same throughoutthe story
flat character a chacter with not much of a role throughout the story
round character a character that changes but always returns to there original state
indirect characterization something that is not physicly said
derect characterization something directly said
exposition the part of the work that intoduces the characters, setting, and basic situation
rising action the actions leading towards the climax
falling action the action after the climax and before the resolution
climax the high point of the action, the turning point of the story
denouement(resolution) the plot that concludes the falling action by revealing or suggesting the outcome of the conflict
1st person point of view the point of view were the narroirater is the protagonist
3rd person point of view when the narrorater discibes the character as their, he, or she
3rd person point of view limited knowing everything about only one character
3rd person point of view omniscient all knowing
theme the moral of the story

diction the words used throughout the story
flashback any kind of memory or any time you go back in time in liturature
epiphany a sudden realization
symbol anything that stands for something else
allusion allude or makes a refference to some one famous or historicle
irony the gap beatween expectation and reality
verbal irony when some sais one thing but means something else
dramatic irony when the reader knows something that character doesnt
situational irony when the opposite happens of what the reader thinks will
imagery when the words paint a picture that deals with your five sences
alliteration its a repetative sound of a contanite throught a sentence or phrase
