QuestionAnswer
Bond Energy Energy required to break a bond
Lewis Structure A diagram of a molecule showing how the valance electrons are arranged among the atoms in the molecule
Bond A force that holds two or more atoms and make them function
Ionic Compound A compound that results when a metal reacts with a non-metal to form cations and anions
Ionic Bonding The attraction between oppositely charged ions
Covalent Bonding A type of bonding in which atoms share electrons
Electronegativity The tendency of an atom in a molecule to attract shared electrons to itself
Polar Covalent Bond A covalent bond in which the electrons are not shared equally, because one atom attracts them more strongly than the other
Octet Rule an atom wants a full outer shell of 8
Bonding Pair An electron pair found in the space between two atoms
Lone Pair An electron pair that is localized on a given atom; an electron pair not involved in bonding
Single Bond A bond in which two atoms share of pair of electrons
Double Bond A bond in which two atoms share two pairs of electrons
Triple Bond A bond in which two atoms share three pairs of electrons
Valance Shell Electrons Pair Repulsion Model (VSEPR) A Model that the structure around a Given atoms in a molecule is determined by the tendency to minimize electrons pair repulsion
Nonpolar Electrons are shared evenly
Polar Electrons are attracted to one more than the other
eplease of ionic bonding lithium Fluoride is an ionic bond because Lithium gives away one of its electrons to Fluoride
what type of bond would KCl be ionic
what type of bond has a high melting point but is nonconductive network

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
