text features elements of a text that help organize and call attention to important information.
titles the name that is attached to a piece of writing
headings also known as the title of a piece of writing
subheadings appear at the beginning of sections within the text and indicated the focus of that section
boldface type dark, heavy print that is used to draw attention to unfamiliar vocabulary
footnotes appear at the bottom of the page and provide definitions or additional information about terms in the text
graphic aids maps, charts, diagrams, graphs and pictures that are visual text features that can help you understand ideas or processes
technical language terms used in a specialized field such as science or technology
anecdote a brief account of an event
summarize briefly retell the central ideas in your own words
objective summary reports what the writer intended, without opinions or unnecessary details
