Chemical Reactions

Chemical Reaction A reaction where the original substance is changed into a new substance.
Law of Conservation of Mass Mass cannot be created or destroyed.
Reactants Substances that are added and react with each other in a chemical reaction.
Products Substances that are produced from a chemical reaction.
What does the subscript below an oxygen molecule tell you in O2? There are two atoms of oxygen in the molecule.
What the coefficient in front of a water molecule tell you in 2H2O? There are two molecules of water.
What number is missing in this equation? ______ Ca + 1 O2 ----> 2 CaO 2

What is a catalyst? Examples of a catalyst. A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction. Examples: Yeast, Catalase
What are some examples that a chemical reaction has occurred? Change in color, temperature, production of a gas.
What is an exothermic reaction? A reaction that releases heat or light.
What is an endothermic reaction? A reaction where heat is absorbed.
When decomposing hydrogen peroxide, what was the catalyst being use? Yeast.
