Revision for Year 8 Test

What does the Periodic table show? All the elements arranged in rows and columns.
What are physical properties of a substance? These are features that can be observed without changing a substance.
What are chemical properties of a substance? These are features of the way a substance reacts with other substances.
What are groups in the periodic table? These are columns on the table.
What are periods on the periodic table? These are the rows.
What are elements? These consist of only one type of atom.
What are molecules? Atoms of an element joined together.
What are compounds? These are two or more different elements joined together by a chemical bond.
What are mixtures? These are molecules that are not chemically joined together.
Who created the Periodic Table? Dimitri Mendeleev
What elements are found in Group 1? The alkali metals.
Do they get more reactive as you go up the group or down the group? Down the group.
Do the halogens become more reactive as they go up or down the group? Up the group.
What happens if you add bromine to sodium iodide? The bromide replaces the iodine so it becomes sodium bromide.
