| Fifth Amendment | guarantees that a person on trial for a criminal offense cannot be forced to testify against him or herself |
| burden of proof | duty or obligation of the prosecution to demonstrate the defendant’s guilt |
| sadist | a person who enjoys inflicting pain on others. (Juror THREE is perhaps one.) |
| reasonable doubt | uncertainty as to a criminal defendant's guilt |
| conviction | the act of proving that a person is guilty of a crime in a court of law |
