denominator the number below the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in the whole or in the group
numerator the number above the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts of the whole are being considered
ratio a comparison of two numbers that can be written as a fraction
x-coordinate the first number in an ordered pair; tells the distance to move right or left from (0, 0)
y-coordinate the second number in an ordered pair; tells the distance to move up or down from (0, 0)
equivalent ratios ratios that name the same comparison
rate a ratio that compares two quantities having different units of measure
unit rate a ratio that compares two quantities having different units of measure so that the second term in the ratio is one unit
