Wavelength is the shortest distance between equilvalent points on a continuous wave.
Frequency is the number of waves that pass a given point per second.
amplitude is the wave's height from the orgin to a crest, or from the orgin to a trough.
electromagnetic spectrum encompasses all forms of electromagnetic radiation.
quantum is the minimum amount of energy that can gained or loss by a atom.
Planck's constant 6.626 X 10 -34 J X s where J is the symbol for the joule
photoelectric effect electrons called photoelectrons are emitted from a metal's surface when light of a certrain frequency shines on a surface.
photon is a particle of the electromagnetic radiation with no mass that carries the quantum energy.
atomic emission spectrum is the set of frequency's of the electromagnetic waves emitted by atoms of the element.
ground state the lowest allowable energy state of an atom.
de Broglie equation predicts that all moving particles have a wave characteristics.
Heisenberg uncertainty principle states that it is fundementally impossible to know precisely both the velocity and position of a particle at the same time.
quantum mechanical model of an atom an atomic model in which elecrtrons are treated as waves.
atomic orbital A three dimensional region around the nucleus.
principle quantum numbers that indicates the relative sizes and energies of atomic orbitals.
principle energy levels the major energy levels of an atom.
energy sublevels the energy levels contained within a principle energy level.
