A level Physics 4.1
Module 4.1 definitions
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Charge carriers (fact) | are + ions or electrons in an electrolyte, electrons in a conductor |
| Coulomb | the charge supplied by a current of 1 amp in 1 second |
| Current | the rate of flow of charge |
| Drift velocity | the average velocity of an electron when it travels through a wire due to an applied pd |
| Electromotive force | the electrical energy transferred per unit charge from other forms of energy |
| Kirchoffs first law (due to conservation of charge) | the total current flowing into a junction is the same as the total out. |
| Ohm | a volt per amp ( VA-1) |
| Ohm's Law | current through a conductor is proportional to the potential difference across it provided temperature remains constant |
| Potential difference | energy transfer per unit charge from electrical to other forms |
| Resistance | p.d./current |
| Volt | joule per coulomb (JC-1) |
