TermDefinition
Compatible Numbers Numbers that play well together for easy computation
Compensation Adjusting an estimate so that it is closer to the exact value
Counting Numbers the set of positive numbers that begin at 1 and increase by increments of one each time
Decimal Number a number in the base 10 place value system used to represent a quantity that may include part of a whole and is recorded with a decimal point to separate the part from the whole
Dividend the number that is being divided (inside the house)
Divisor by the number the dividend is being divided by (outside the house)
Estimation an approximate value
Factor a number multiplied by another number to find the product
Order of Operations rules that need to be followed when simplifying an expression; PEMDAS
Product the total when 2 or more factors are multiplied; answer to multiplication problem
Quotient the answer to a division problem
Whole Numbers the set of counting numbers and zero (0, 1, 2, 3….)
Prime Number A number than only has 2 factors, 1 and itself
Composite Number A number that has 3 or more factors
