When the Belgians were retreating repeatedly to their men in the woods and back again out of the forest they made an attack on our men,

neque nostri longius quam quem ad finem porrecta loca aperta pertinebant cedentes insequi auderent,

who did not dare to follow them farther than the limit beyond which the open spaces extended;

interim legiones VI quae primae venerant, opere dimenso, castra munire coeperunt.

Meanwhile, the six legions which had come first, once the work was measured out, began to fortify the camp.
