Caesar WS 8.2

Caesar equitatu praemisso subsequebatur omnibus copiis; Caesar, with the calvary having been sent ahead, was followed by all the troops,
sed ratio ordoque agminis aliter se habebat ac Belgae ad Nervios detulerant. but the general arrangement of the marching line held itself differently than the Belgians had reported to the Nervii.
Nam quod hostibus adpropinquabat, For because he was approaching the enemy,
consuetudine sua Caesar VI legiones expeditas ducebat; Caesar according to his custom was leading six legions in light marching order;
post eas totius exercitus impedimenta conlocarat; Behind them he had places the baggage trains of the entire army;
inde duae legiones quae proxime conscriptae erant then the two legions which had most recently been enlisted
totum agmen claudebant praesidioque impedimentis erant. closed off the rear of the whole column and were guards for the baggage trains.
Equites nostri cum funditoribus sagittariisque flumen transgressi Our calvary, having crossed the river with the slingers and the archers,
cum hostium equitatu proelium commiserunt. began battle with the calvary of the enemy.
Cum se illi identidem in silvis ad suos reciperent ac rursus ex silva in nostros impetum facerent, When the Belgians were retreating repeatedly to their men in the woods and back again out of the forest they made an attack on our men,
neque nostri longius quam quem ad finem porrecta loca aperta pertinebant cedentes insequi auderent, who did not dare to follow them farther than the limit beyond which the open spaces extended;
interim legiones VI quae primae venerant, opere dimenso, castra munire coeperunt. Meanwhile, the six legions which had come first, once the work was measured out, began to fortify the camp.
