Greek and Etruscan Influence

How did Etruscan engineering influence Roman life? The Romans became great builders and learned many techniques from the Etruscans. Two importantant structures where the ARCH and the CUNICULUS.
Cuniculus a long underground trench. It had vertical shafts that connected it to the ground above. The trenches were used to drain swamps and carry water to the city and to irrigate land.
The Arch a structure made of wedge shaped stones that are held together by the pressure of one stone against another.
How did Etruscan sporting events influence Roman life? Romans adopted two bloody sporting events from the Etruscans. The first was slave fighting. The second was chariot races. In rome, Gladiators fought in stadiums against other gladiators, or animals and thousands of people flocked to see chariot races.
How did Greek art influence Roman life? Romans admired Greek pottery, painting and sculpting. Romans valued Greek pottery for its usefulness and beauty. Wealthy Romans collected Greek art and had monuments built in Greek styles.
How did Greek mythology affect Roman life? Greek mythology influenced Roman ideas about the Gods. Romans initially had their own ideas about the gods, but those changed when they encountered other cultures. Romans adopted many of the Greek Gods as their own.
How did the Greeks influence Roman architecture? The Romans used Greek designs in their own public buildings and learned to use concrete to make larger structures.
How did the Greeks influence Roman writing? The Greek alphabet was first adopted by the Etruscans and changed, the Romans then borrowed the Etruscan alphabet. Like Greeks, Romans wrote in all capital letters, and they both carved important inscriptions into walls for all to see.

The Alphabet This is considered a Greek Influence although they took itt directly from the Etruscans. Etruscan got it from the Greeks.

Why did the Alps and Apenine Mnts. give Rome a geographical advantage? The ranges gave Rome protection from enemies
How was Rome's location in relationship to Tyrrhenian Sea and Tigris Rivers and advantage? The biggest advantage was travel, water routes made it easier to trade. Also a drinking source and irrigation
