| Producer | Producers are the source of food in an ecosystem. |
| Consumer | An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms. |
| Herbivores | A consumer that only eats plants. |
| Carnivores | A consumer that only eats animals. |
| Omnivores | A consumer that eats both animals and plants. |
| Scavenger | A scavenger is a carnivore that feeds on the bodies dead organisms. |
| Decomposers | Decomposers break down biotic waste and dead organisms and return the raw material to the ecosystem. |
| Food chain | A food chain is a series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy. |
| Food web | a food web consists of many overlapping food chains in a ecosystem. |
| energy pyramid | Shows the amount of energy that moves from feeding level to another food web. |
| evaporation | The energy for evaporation comes from the heat of the sun. |
