proportion an equation that states two ratios are equal
rate the ratio of 2 measurements having different units of measure
ratio a comparison of 2 numbers
constant of variation the number k in y = kx
direct variation an equation of the form y = kx where k cannot equal 0
linear equation an equation of the form Ax + By = C, with a graph that is a straight line.
rate of change how a quantity is changing with respect to a change in another quantity
slope the ratio of the change in the y values to the corresponding change in the x values as you move from one point to another along a line
standard form of a linear equation is Ax + By = C where A is not negative and A, B and C are all integers
x intercept point where the graph crosses the x axis
y intercept point where the graph crosses the y axis
negative slope line descends from left to right
positive slope line ascends from left to right
zero slope horizontal line
undefined slope vertical line
