| Prediction | A logical guess or assumption about something that has not yet happened. |
| Simile | A comparison between two unlike things using the words like or as. |
| Metaphor | A comparison between two unlike things in which one thing becomes another. |
| Connotation | The suggested or implied meaning or emotion associated with a word- beyond a literal definition. |
| Denotation | The exact, literal meaning of a word (dictionary definition). |
| Imagery | Details that create a word picture and appeal to one or more of the five senses. |
| Paraphrase | To restate in one’s own words. |
