| Meter | Arrangement of words in poetry based on rhythm, accents, and the number of syllables in a line |
| Mood | The emotions or feelings that are conveyed in a literary work |
| Theme | The main message/lesson learned that a writer wants to communicate to a reader |
| Rhyme | Words with similar ending sounds such as hit/bit, yellow/fellow |
| Rhythm | A regular pattern of sound and beats within a poem |
| Symbolism | Something that stands for something else in literature (dove = peace) |
| Rhyme Scheme | The pattern of rhymes made by the final words or sounds in the lines of a poem -Example would be a stanza with the lines labeled A,B, A, C |
| Stanza | a group of lines forming the basic recurring metrical unit in a poem; a verse - it is like a paragraph in a novel |
| Speaker of a poem | “The speaker is the voice or "persona" of a poem |
