| Brackish | Slightly salty. EX: The french fries were brackish. |
| Crucible | Container in which metals, ores, etc. can be melted. EX: Dove gave Johnny a cracked crucible. |
| Pious | Having or showing reverence for God; religious EX: The Lapham family was very pious. |
| Repousse | Raised in relief by hammering on the reverse side of thin metal. EX: Mr. Lapham had to repousse the handles for the sugar basin. |
| Poultice | A soft, moist mass of mustard,herbs, etc. applied to the body as a medicine. The doctor rubbed poultice on his paitent's body to heal it. |
