| cottage | a small house in the country usually with a garden |
| semi-detached house | two houses joined together |
| terraced house | several houses joined together |
| bungalow | a house which has only one floor |
| detached house | a house which stands alone and is not joined to any other |
| mansion | a very large, expensive house |
| maisonette | a small apartment on two levels which is part of a larger building but has its own entrance |
| a flat in a block of flats | a set of rooms for living in, usually on one floor of a building |
| space | an empty place (for something) |
| repair | to put (something damaged, broken or not working correctly) back into good condition or make it work again |
| owner | a person whom the house belongs to |
| share | use something together |
| privacy | being alone, a right to keep your personal relationship or matters secret |
| responsible | having control over something or someone and the duty of taking care of it or them |
| renovation | process of repairing and making better |
| rent | to allow (your house or land) to be lived in or used by someone else in exchange for a payment made regularly |
| upkeep | the cost or process of keeping something, such as a building, in good and usable condition |
| attic | the space or room at the top of a building, under the roof, often used for storing things |
| basement | a part of a building consisting of rooms that are partly or completely below the level of the ground |
| water supply | the water that is provided for a particular area |
| electricity wiring | the system of wires that carry electricity |
| conveniences | something in the house, which makes life easier for its user because it operates quickly and needs little effort |
| ceiling | the surface of a room which you can see when you look above you |
| period | of a certain time in history |
| heating | the system of making the house warm in cold weather |
| cooling | the system of making the house cool in hot weather |
| spacious | having a lot of space |
| lack | not to have enough of (something that is needed or wanted) |
