Literary terms

QuestionAnswer
Theme the meaning behind the story or the message of the story
Irony the outcome that wasn't expected
Plot the problem of the story or the storyline
Setting where the time in the story takes place
Imagery figurative language and words that give you a picture in your brain
Direct characterization author or narrator tells you what exactly happens in the beginning
Indirect characterization reader has to find out about the character through their actions or what other characters say about that character
Foreshadowing a description that helps to predict what will happen later
Epiphany a realization for life or ah-ah moment for a character
Suspense the events that lead to something big
Protagonist the hero of the story
Antagonist the villain of the story
