Numerical Expressions and Factors

numerical expression a mathematical expression that contains only numbers and operations
order of operations the order in which mathematical expressions are to be evaluated
evaluate a numerical expression using the order of operations find out how much the expression is worth
exponent a number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor in an exponential expression
base the number that is used as a repeated factor in an exponential expression
power the number of times the base is used as a factor in an exponential expression
factor the numbers being multiplied
common factor factors that are shared by two or more numbers
greatest common factor- GCF the largest of the common factors of two or more numbers
prime number a number that has only two factors, one and itself
composite number a number that has three or more factors
factorization a list of numbers/factors for a given quantity
prime factorization the set of prime numbers that are the factors of a given quantity
multiple a number that is divisible by another whole number with no remainders
common multiple the common multiples of a set of numbers
least common multiple - LCM the smallest of the common multiples of a set of numbers
squared a number multiplied by itself; raised to the power of two; raised to the second power
cubed a number used as a factor three times; a number raised to the power of three; raised to the third power
