Numerical Expressions and Factors

expression | a mathematical phrase that can involve numbers, variables, and operations |
numerical expression | a mathematical expression that contains only numbers and operations |
order of operations | the order in which mathematical expressions are to be evaluated |
evaluate a numerical expression | using the order of operations find out how much the expression is worth |
exponent | a number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor in an exponential expression |
base | the number that is used as a repeated factor in an exponential expression |
power | the number of times the base is used as a factor in an exponential expression |
factor | the numbers being multiplied |
common factor | factors that are shared by two or more numbers |
greatest common factor- GCF | the largest of the common factors of two or more numbers |
prime number | a number that has only two factors, one and itself |
composite number | a number that has three or more factors |
factorization | a list of numbers/factors for a given quantity |
prime factorization | the set of prime numbers that are the factors of a given quantity |
multiple | a number that is divisible by another whole number with no remainders |
common multiple | the common multiples of a set of numbers |
least common multiple - LCM | the smallest of the common multiples of a set of numbers |
squared | a number multiplied by itself; raised to the power of two; raised to the second power |
cubed | a number used as a factor three times; a number raised to the power of three; raised to the third power |
