Chemistry CH21 Section 1 Types of Radioactivity

alpha particle a helium nucleus consisting of two protons and two neurons
beta particle a high-energy electron with a 1- charge
gamma ray a high-energy form of electromagnetic radiation with no charge and no mass
half-life the time it takes for half of a given radioactive isotope to decay (into a different isotope or element)
radioactivity the spontaneous emission of radiation by an unstable atomic nucleus
