Thomas Putnam wewalthy and influential man in Salem. Encourages the accusations and uses the trial to increase his own wealth
Ann Putnam Thomas Putnam's wife; all children have died and believes were murdered by supernatural means
Giles Corey an 82 year old feisty farmer, famous for a tendency to file lawsuits
Tituba Parris' slave from Barbados. Dark arts and sorcery;among the first to be accused of witch craft
Betty Parris Reverend Parris' ten-year-old daughter. Falls ill after dancing in forest; fuels first rumors of witchcraft
Ruth Putnman only surviving child of Ann and Thomas Putnam. Fell into stupor after being caught conjuring spirits in the forest to try to communicate with her dead siblings.
Mercy Lewis Belongs to Abby's group of girls; servant of Putnam's household. "Fat, sly, merciless girl of eighteen"
Mary Warren Belongs to Abby's group of girls;servant in Proctor's household. "Seventeen, subservient, naive, lonely girl." Easily swayed.
Reverend John Hale young minister with reputation of being an expert on witchcraft. Called to Salem to examine Betty.
Elizabeth Proctor John Proctor's wife. Fired Abigail Williams after discovering that she and John were having an affair.
Martha Corey Giles Corey's third wife. Martha's reading habits lead to her arrest and conviction for witchcraft.
Ezekiel Cheevar clerk of the Salem court during the witch trials. He is upright and determined to do his duty of justice.
Herrick marshal of Salem
Judge Hathorne a judge who presides, along with Danforth, over the witch trials.
Judge Danforth the Deputy Governor of Massachussetts and the presiding judge at the witch trials. Shuts down people who appear to challenge his authority.
