long division | Arithmetical division in which the divisor has two or more figures, and a series of steps is made as successive groups of digits of the dividend are divided by the divisor, to avoid excessive mental calculation. |
synthetic division | A shorthand, or shortcut, method of polynomial division in the special case of dividing by a linear factor -- and it only works in this case. Synthetic division is generally used, however, not for dividing out factors but for finding zeroes (or roots) of polynomials. |
rational expression | The quotient of two polynomials, or algebraic fraction, with the denominator not 0. |
least common denominator | Given several denominators, the smallest expression that is divisible by all the denominators. |
domain | The set of all first components (x-values) in the ordered pairs in a relation. |
product | The answer to a multiplication problem. |
quotient | The answer to a division problem. |
