| root | A number k such that f(k) = 0 for the polynomial equation f(x). |
| zero | The value k such that f(k) = 0 for the polynomial function f. |
| x-intercept | A point where a graph intersects the x-axis. |
| solution | Any replacement for the variable that makes the equation true. |
| quadratic formula | A general formula used to solve any quadratic equation. x=(-b±√(b^2-4ac))/2a for polynomials in the form ax2 + bx + c = 0. |
| square root property | If x^2 = k, then x = √k or x = -√k. |
