Properties of Matter

| solution | a mixture, usually liquid, in which all the components are mixed evenly |
| heat | energy that flows between objects of different temperatures |
| kinetic energy | energy of motion |
| temperature | the average kinetic energy of the molecules of a substance |
| boiling point | the temperature at which a liquid changes in a gas |
| freezing point | the temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
| mixture | a combination of two or more different substances |
| carbonated | containing carbon dioxide gas |
| atom | the smallest unit of an element that contains all the properties of that element |
| elements | basic chemical substances from which all matter is made |
| electron | a particle if matter with a charge of -1 |
| proton | a particle of matter with a charge of +1 |
| orbital | a region around the nucleus of an atom that may contain up to two electrons |
| isotopes | two or more forms of an atom that contain different numbers of neutrons |
