Circuits
8th Grade Science
Electric Circuit | This needs at least a power source, a path for the electric current to flow, and a resistor such as a light bulb. |
Series Circuit | A circuit where the devices are connected one after the other. Electrons can only flow in one direction. If one device fails, the electricity stops flowing. |
Parallel circuit | A circuit that has multiple paths for electrons to flow. If one device fails, electricity can still flow through another path. |
Electric current | The flow of an electric charge through a conductor |
Electric force | The attraction between two electrically charged objects |
Electrons | The negatively charged particles in an atom |
Conductor | a material that electricity can flow through easily such as metal. |
Insulator | a material that electricity can not flow through easily such as rubber or plastic. |
Load | a device in a circuit that operates using electrical energy. An example of this is a lightbulb, motor, or radio. |
Switch | A device that is used to control the flow of current though a circuit. This device opens or closes the circuit. |
Open circuit | A circuit that is broken, and electricity will not flow. |
Closed circuit | A circuit that has a continuous path for electricity to flow. |
Get dimmer | When you add more bulbs to a series circuit, the bulbs ________. |
Get brighter | When you add more batteries to a series circuit, the bulbs _______ |
