K.A.P. Course Review

QuestionAnswer
Identify the place value of the 4 in 2014. The four is in the ones place.
What is the Greatest Common Factor of 33 and 44? GCF of 33 and 44: 33 - 1, 3, 11, and 33 & 44: 1, 2, 4, 11, 22, and 44. The greatest number that these two values have in common is 11, which is the Greatest Common Factor of 33 and 44.
What is the Least Common Multiple of 14 and 28? 14: 14, 28, 42, 56 and 28: 28, 56, 84 and 112. The Least Common Multiple of 14 and 28 is 56, which is 2*28 and 4*14.
What does it mean to represent data? This means to analyze and interpret the data.
Find the area of a flash card that is three by five inches assuming that this is a rectangular study aid. Area of a rectangle is length times width so 3*5 is 15. Thus, a rectangular flash card that is three by five inches has an area of 15 square inches.
What is the perimeter of the same flash card? A rectangular perimeter is two times the length plus two times the width. Thus, 2*3 plus two times five will give us six plus ten. In other words, the flash card has a perimeter of sixteen inches.
A box has dimensions of 6 units, 8 units, and 7 units. What is the volume of the box? The volume of a rectangular prism, or a box is length times width times height. Thus, 6*8 is 48 times 7 is 336. In other words, the box has a volume of 336 units.
What is 2/3 plus 2/3 in simplified form? 2/3 plus 2/3 is 4/3, or 1 1/3. We leave the answer as an improper fraction when taking tests on the computer if it doesn't recognize the mixed numbers. When taking paper-based test, you have a choice of whether to change it to a mixed number or leave it.
Round 2/3 to the nearest tenth. 2/3 is approximately 0.67, which rounds to 0.7!
Which number is greater and why: -3 or -15? Negative three is greater than negative fifteen because -3 is closer to zero than -15; the further a number is from zero, the smaller the value is.
What quadrant is (3,4) in? (3,4) is in the first quadrant.
What is an equivalent ratio of 6:9? 2:3 is an equivalent ratio of 6:9 since this is the ratio in its simplest form once we divide both numbers by three.
What are expressions, equations and inequalities? Expressions are a collection of at least one term according to the Algebra I Reference Chart by REA. Equations are a term collection, or expression with an equal sign and inequalities have greater/ less than (or equal to) symbols.
Simplify the expression 3z+4z+9y. 3z and 4z can be combined since they are like terms so we add three z plus four z to get seven z. We cannot combined 7z and 9y, however, since these are different terms. Thus, the answer is 7z+9y.
Solve the equation 3z+4z=21. Add 3z and 4z to get 7z. The new equation is 7z=21. Next, we divide both sides by 7 and get 3. Thus, z=3. This means that 3 is equal to z.
Solve the inequality 7z > 28. First, we divide both sides by 7. The answer is z > 4. This means that the letter z has a solution set that is greater than four.
What are exponents and radicals? Exponents are powers and radicals are roots, or fractional exponents.
What is three raised to the third power? This is 3*3*3, which is 9*3 = 27.
What is the square root of four? This is two because two times two is four.
What is ten to the negative first power? This is 1/10, or 0.1!
What are negative exponents? These are really fractions in the form of 1 over the base, or 1/x.
