Science chemical reactions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| reactant | substances at beginning (left side of equation) |
| product | new substances (right side of equation) |
| precipitate | solid that forms from solution during chemical reaction |
| endothermic reaction | energy absorbed |
| exothermic reaction | energy released |
| coefficient | number in front of chemical equation, tells you how many atoms/molecules there are |
| synthesis | put together, make more complex substance |
| decomposition | break down into simpler products |
| replacement | two elements in different compounds trade places |
| Chemical reaction | one or more substances (reactants) undergo a chemical change to form one or more new substances (products) with different chemical properties |
| Yields | “reacts to form” |
| Law of Conservation of Mass | All atoms that are present at the beginning of a chemical reaction are present at the end of the reaction (matter is neither created nor destroyed) |
| Activation Energy | The minimum amount of energy needed to start a chemical reaction |
| Subscript | number, to the lower right of the element's symbol, shows how many atoms of that element are in the molecule. |
