Describe the functions of the lymphatic system. Maintains tissue fluid balance by returning tissue fluid with its nutrients and waste back into the blood stream. Protects the body by producing white blood cells to protect the body from foreign substances and bacteria and by filtering out micro organism
Where is lymph filtered? Lymph nodes
Name 2 functions of the spleen. Produce Lymphocytes and monocytes. Stores large numbers of erythrocytes. Forms erythrocytes in the developing foetus. Contracts and deposit extra erythrocytes into the blood. Filters blood
Explain the function of the immune system. To defend the body against infectious organisms and other invaders.
Which Lymphocytes are responsible for the production of antibodies? B Lymphocytes
Describe inflammation. Its the body's defence reaction against infection or irritation. Its combines the increased blood flow and capillary permeability, activation of macrophages, temperature increase and clotting reaction, to wall off the infected area.
Give the correct terminology for Glandular fever. Infectious Mononucleosis
Give the correct terminology for an enlarged spleen. Splenomegaly
Give the correct terminology for an abnormal collection of fluid in the tissues. Oedema

Explain the meaning of allergic reaction. When the immune system overreacts to exposure to antigens in the environment.
Explain the meaning of phagocytosis The ability of cells to surround, engulf and digests foreign bacteria.
