TermDefinition
PreImage the original figure or shape
image a new figure created from a transformation
translation "slides" a figure to a new location (same shape, size, and direction)
transformation an operations that maps an original picture onto a new one (translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations)
reflection a mirror image or "flip" of the original ( same size, same shape, different direction)
rotation when the original figure is "turned" round a fixed point (same size, same shape, different direction)
dilation when a figure is stretched (grow) or shrank (shrink) (same shape, same direction, different size)
scale factor k = what the dimensions of the preimage is multiplied by to create the image
