Division Splitting into equal parts or groups. It is the result of "fair sharing". Mathematical notation for division is รท or / or the division house symbol.
Dividend The number being fair shared and the number being divided up into parts. Example: 42 divided by 3 means 42 is the dividend. Example 2: 3 goes into 42 means 42 is the dividend.
Factor Numbers we can multiply together to get another number. The divisor and the quotient are factors of the dividend.
Quotient (kwo-shent) The answer after you divide one number by another.
Divisor The number you are dividing BY. Example: Five is the divisor for the problems 25 divided by 5 and Five goes into 25.
Remainder The amount left when you cannot make all groups equally sized in a division problem. Example: 10 divided by 3 equals 3 groups of 3 with 1 left over.
