4th grade fractions
| Term | Definition |

| Fraction | a number that names equal parts of a whole; a fraction names a point on the number line. |
| numberator | the number above the fraction bar in a fraction that tells the number of equal parts that are being described |
| denominator | the number below the fraction bar in a fraction that tells the number of equal parts in the whole |
| equivalent fractions | two or more fractions that name the same part of a while or the same point on a number line |
| benchmark fraction | a common fraction that you might compare other fractions to |
| common denominator | a number that is a common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions |
| compare | to decide if one number is greater than, less than or equal to another number |
| > | a symbol used to compare two number when the first is greater than the second |
| < | a symbol used to compare two numbers with the first is less than the second |
| unit fraction | a fraction with a numerator of 1: other fractions are built from this |
| mixed number | a number with a whole number part and a fractional part |
| product | the result of multiplication |
| tenths | the parts formed with a whole is divided into ten equal parts |
| hundredths | the pars formed when a whole is divided into one hundred equal parts |
