| connotation | an association that a word calls to mind in additino to the dictionary meaning of the word. |
| consonance | reptition of consonant sounds at th end of words or accented syllables |
| denotaion | of a word is its objective meaning. Independent of other associations that the word brings to mind |
| diction | is a writers or speakers word choice. Its a part of a writers style and may be described as formal informal plain or ornate |
| exposistion | writing or speeech that explains informs or presents iformation. the main techniques of it includes analysis classification compare and contrast definition exemplification or illustration. its the part that introduces the characters setting and basic plot |
| fable | a brief story usually with animal characters that teaches a lesson or moral. |
| image | word or phrase that appeals to one or more of the five senses |
| imagery | descriptive or figurative languge in literature to create word pictures for the reader. |
| irony | contrast btw whats stated and whatss meant or btw whats expected to happen and what actually happens |
| paradox | statement taht seems to be contradictory but that acctually presents truth. it is suprising or shcoking it draws the readers attention to what is being said. |
| prose | ordinary form of writer language. most writin that isnt poerty drama or a song is considered a it. its in fiction and non fiction |

| rising action | part of the plot in the story that leads up to the climax. during it susupense increases as the complications of the conflict develop |

| stream of consciousness | narrative technique that presents thoughts as if they were coming directly from a characters mind instad of being arranged in chrononlogical order the events of the story are presented from the characters POV |
