Term | Definition |

Addition Property of Equality | when you solve an equation by adding the same number from each side of the equation |
Division Property of Equality | when you solve an equation by dividing the same number from each side of the equation |
equation | a mathematical sentence showing two expressions are equal |
algebraic expression | a combination of variables, numbers, and at least one operation |
inverse operations | operations that "undo" each other |
Multiplication Property of Equality | when you solve an equation by multiplying the same number from each side of the equation |
solution | the value for the variable |
solve | when you replace a variable with a value that results in a true sentence |
Subtraction Property of Equality | when you solve an equation by subtracting the same number from each side of the equation |
substitution | replacing a variable (letter) with a number |
