Review of government terms

TermDefinition
legislature law-making body elected by the people
Prime Minister head of government in a Parliamentary democracy- makes day-to-day decisions and head of military- chosen by leading political party in Parliament
President head of government and head of state in a presidential democracy- makes day-to-day decisions, head of military, and symbol for the country
Monarch Head of State in a Parliamentary Democracy- serves as the symbol for the country, does NOT make day-to-day decisions for the country
autocracy all of the power is held by one person with unlimited authority
dictator the ruler in an autocracy
democracy a nation's citizens get to vote for their leaders
Canada's government a Parliamentary Democracy
Brazil's government a Presidential Democracy; 18-70 are REQUIRED to vote
Mexico's government a Presidential Democracy
Cuba's government an autocracy; citizens vote for legislators, but all names on the ballot are members of the Communist party!
