Mirrors Vocab

TermDefinition
Clear reflection Reflection off of smooth surfaces such as mirrors or a calm body of water leads to this type of reflection
Diffuse reflection Reflection off of rough surfaces such as clothing, paper, and the asphalt roadway leads to this type of reflection
Reflecting Surface The smooth shiny side of the object that reflects light
Plane mirror Mirror with a flat smooth surface
Concave mirror A mirror that curves inward
Convex mirror A mirror that curves outward
Converging light rays after striking the reflecting surface meet at a point
Diverging light rays after striking the reflecting surface spread out in different directions
Concave mirror Converges light rays
Convex mirror Diverges light rays
Plane mirror image Same shape, size, laterally inverted,upright
Concave mirror image (close to object) larger, upright, of different shape, laterally inverted
