Language argument

TermDefinition
Analysis The author connects the claim, warrant, and evidence -- Authors words
Claim Side that the writer takes in an argument --thesis of the entire paper
Counterclaim opposite side of the argument
Defend Supporting the argument ; justification for the argument
Evidence Quote or a paraphrase from a text/ source to defend the claim or warrent
Irrelevant Information Information that does not pertain to their topic
Refute disproving the argument; trying to prove the argument or theory to be wrong
Relevant Information Information that pertains to the topic
Warrent reason to back up the claim -- Topic sentence of the paragraph --Includes part of the claim in the sentence
