Literary Elements

QuestionAnswer
Fiction Writing that comes from an author's imagination
Novel A long and complex story with multiple characters and actions. Takes longer to read.
Short Story Is centered on a single event and does not take a long time to read
Theme The main message or lesson from the author
Resolution Ties up the loose ends of a story. Also called the conclusion.
Climax The highest point of interest or action in the story
Complications the plot begins to build and gets more complex
Conflict The problem or struggle
Plot The sequence or order of events
Setting The time and place of the story
Characters People or imaginary creatures involved in the action of the story
Interduction Gives the character descriptions, the setting, and the conflict. Also called the exposition.
