Social Change

| Cognitive Dissonance | Occurs when our beliefs or attitudes are not in line with our actions or behaviours. |

| Conformity | A sense of security in a group of people – a feeling that makes one ‘belong’ |
| Conditions for Social Change | A population ready for change, charismatic leader etc. |
| Impediments to Social Change | Expense, tradition etc. |
| Future Shock | Occurs when a technology comes in to place before people are ready for it. Essentially "too much change in a short amount of time." |
| Technosis | A feeling of anxiety or "out of touch" when there is an absence of technology. |
| Enhances | Any new major medium enhances or accelerates a certain process or thing. |
| Obsoletes | The new medium gets rid of another process or thing. |
| Retrieves | The new medium brings back something from the past. |
| Reverses | The medium may have unintended consequences or flip into something entirely new. |
