| Prokaryote | A prokaryote is a unicellular organism that lacks a membrane-bound nucleus, mitochondria, or any other membrane-bound organelle. |
| Eukaryote | A eukaryote is any organism whose cells have a cell nucleus and other organelles enclosed within membranes. |
| Cell wall | A cell wall is a structural layer surrounding some types of cells, situated outside the cell membrane. |
| Mitochondrion (plural) | The mitochondrion is a double membrane-bound organelle found in all eukaryotic organisms. |
