Algebra Vocab 2
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Polynomial | an expression of more than two algebraic terms, especially the sum of several terms that contain different powers of the same variables. |
| Radical | In mathematics, a radical expression is defined as any expression containing a radical (√) symbol. |
| Constant | In Algebra, a constant is a number on its own, or sometimes a letter such as a, b or c to stand for a fixed number. Example: in "x + 5 = 9", 5 and 9 are constants. |
| Coefficient | A number or symbol multiplied with a variable or an unknown quantity in an algebraic term. For example, 4 is the coefficient in the term 4x, and x is the coefficient in x(a + b). |
| Irrational | not expressible as a ratio of two integers, and having an infinite and nonrecurring expansion when expressed as a decimal. |
| Distribute | The distributive property lets you multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products. |
| Term | is either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. |
| Exponent | An exponent is a small number written with another big number that tells how many times to multiply the big number by itself. |
| Rational | In mathematics, a rational number is any number that can be expressed as the quotient or fraction p/q of two integers |
| Variable | A Variable is a symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y |
