Planning and zoning

TermDefinition
Planning An act of local government aimed at controlling the growth of local communities
Plannned unit development A per planned development aimed at satisfying the various needs of the community
Master Plan Used by plannners to guid them into allocating various zoning
Zoning The act of local government to determine the use of certain properties
Zoning Ordinance The execution of police power of local government
Buffer zone Used to avoid overcrowding
Building Codes Michigan residential code, which applies to the construction and remodeling of residential properties.
Setback Ordinance Distance from edge of lot to where building is erected
Non Conforming use The use of the land that does not match the zoning laws
Grandfather Clause A provision in the law that allows the continuation of a non conforming use.
Zoning Variance Allows the introduction of a non comforming use.
