Term | Definition |

Exactly | used to show that something is absolute or completely accurate |
Approximately | used to show that something is almost, but not completely, accurate or exact; roughly |
Linear Equation | An equation that makes a straight line when it is graphed. Often written in the form: y = mx+b |
Table | Numbers or quantities arranged in rows and columns |
Ordered Pair | Can be used to show the position on a graph, where the "x" (horizontal) value is first, and the "y" (vertical) value is second. |
Variable | A symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y |
Graph | A diagram of values, usually shown as lines or bars |
Represent | to SHOW or EXPRESS a general relationship between similar objects |
Solve | to find the answer or explanation for |
Times | multiplied by |
altogether | including everything or everyone; in total |
discover | find (something or someone) unexpectedly or in the course of a search |
Coordinate Plane | The plane containing the "x" axis and "y" axis. |
Substitute | placing numbers or expressions where the variables are |
Value | how much something is worth; the result of a calculation |
Solution | A value we can put in place of a variable (such as x) that makes the equation true |
Satisfy | to fulfill the requirements or conditions of |
Overlap | refers to a special case in a system of equations in which the two lines actually lie directly on top of each other |
