|---|---|
| transformation | change in size, shape, or position |
| pre-image | original figure |
| function | set of ordered pairs in which each x-value is associated with one and only one y-value |
| mapping | pairing each member of the domain with each member of the range |
| translation | rigid motion in which every point is moved the same distance and in the same direction |

| rhombus | parallelogram with 4 congruent sides |
| reflection | a transformation in which a figure is flipped over a line |
| line of reflection | the central line about which a figure produces its line of symmetry |
| line of symmetry | an actual or imaginary line that creates a mirror image |
| rotation | a transformation that maps points across a circular arc, preserves the distance of each point to the center of rotation |
| rotational symmetry | a rotation of less than 360 degrees that can map the shape onto itself |
| angle of rotational symmetry | smallest angle that can map a shape onto itself |
| composition of transformations | two or more transformations performed in sequence |
| congruent figures | a composition of rigid motions maps one figure to another |
