What memory does Jonas use to keep him and Gabe safe from the technology of the search planes? Jonas transferred the memory of snow so that Gabriel and him will not be spotted by the searching planes and get punished for escaping.

How did Jonas react after he watched the release? Jonas was upset and started to cry and could not bear to home to his family unit. He could not face his father, because of what he had done.

What happened to the twin infant and who carried it out? The twin infant who weighed less was released and Jonas’s father was the one who released him.
Who decides that identical twins would be too complicated? The Committee of Elders decided that in this community they thought that identical twins would be too complicated, with them looking exactly the same and it would be hard to tell them apart.
Name 3 reasons why the Giver cannot escape the community with Jonas. 1. He is to old. 2. He must stay behind to help the community once they receive all of Jonas’s memories. 3.He also has to cover for Jonas and Gabriel while they escape and lie to tell the community they fell into the river.
Explain the concept of HEARING BEYOND: Hearing beyond is when you are able to hear music. This was the first experience The Giver had to the capacity to see beyond.
Describe the steps of THE PLAN to escape? Jonas is to take his bike to the side of the river and hide it in the bushes, and then he is to go to the annex. This is when the Giver is going to order a car and while The Giver send the driver on a quick errand Jonas would hide in the back of the car.
Describe the changes in the landscape that Jonas observes when he leaves the community. The change in landscape that Jonas observed once he left the community included hills, snow, and rain. Everything was not flat and instead he had to climb up and over hills that were steep and icy from snow that was cold and rain that was wet and got them
What was the strongest fear that Jonas had during this part of the journey? Jonas’s strongest fear during the journey was losing Gabe. He loved Gabe and risked the plan to save the Gabes life and from him having to be released for not being able to reach the goals of a child at the nurturing center.
What was the first lie that Jonas told his parents? The first time Jonas lied to his parents was when he told them he understood why not to save the word love because it was not precise enough.
What changed the Giver and Jonas’ plan to leave the community? The thing that changed the Giver and Jonas’ plan to leave the community was that Gabe was selected to be released the next day.
Why does Jonas stop taking his pills? Jonas stopped taking the pills, because they prevented him from feeling emotions, which he wanted to and he knew about them from receiving the memories.
What happened to the community when the old Receiver was released? Once the old Receiver was released the community had to bear the memories that were given to her from the Giver.
What are 3 ways the terrain in Elsewhere is different from the community? 1. Hills 2. Snow 3. Rain
Define Foreshadowing: The author’s use of clues to hint at what might happen later on in the story.
Event:Caleb died from falling in the river and their was a big ceremony of loss to honor him. Foreshadowing Clue:Later in the story the river played a big role in the escape of Jonas and Gabe. There story was that they fell in the river and dies when they actually escaped.
Event:A young boy named Gabe was born with pale eyes just like The Giver, Rosemary, and Jonas. Foreshadowing Clue:This lead us to think all of the Receivers were community members that were born with pale eyes and they have the power to receive memories.
Event:When Jonas was playing in the recreation center with Asher by playing catch with an apple that turned red for Jonas. Foreshadowing Clue:The apple changing red was Jonas’s first experience with being able to see colors and now he can see all colors.
Event:One day after training Jonas had gone home with the new memory of love. He thought that love was amazing and told his parents. They said that love was not precise enough and Jonas agreed. Foreshadowing Clue:This was the first instance Jonas lied to his parents. He did not believe the word love was not precise. He thought the opposite but to please his parents he said he understood.
